A Canadian company selling natural health products that are readily available in the US was the recent target of an armed raid in Calgary, Alberta. On January 15 2009, Health Canada agents accompanied by armed RCMP entered the facilities and private residence of the owners of N.A.F.T.A, which sells amino acid, glandular and herbal products.

Article: The Law of Tea By Ronald Doering February 2009 Naturally, manufacturers of tea beverages were pleased that Health Canada scientists were finally recognizing what they had been saying all along. All manufacturers had to do was apply to be a NHP, which they did. Yet without any warning or negotiation with the tea industry, the Health Canada website was changed in October 2007 so that the monograph no longer accepted the claims for tea beverages because Health Canada had changed its mind – hot beverage teas were now foods.

Bill C-51 was debated during second reading, the week ending June 13, 2008, at which time the Canadian government introduced amendments to the bill.
According to the draft discussion paper on the amendments to C-51, written by Constitutional lawyer Shawn Buckley for the Natural Health Products Protection Association (NHPPA), the amendments presented by Tony Clement on June 9, 2008 are far from satisfactory, and do little, if nothing, to protect the natural health community and users of natural health products.
